A Brief History
The word alphabet is the amalgamation of the first two Greek letters, alpha and beta
The English, French, German and Spanish languages have roots in the Latin Alphabet and all, except for the French language, have used runic alphabet of Futhorc in the distant past
The English alphabet was created from a combination of the Latin alphabet and runic alphabet of Futhorc. The alphabets were merged about 1 000 years ago and has evolved into what is currently known as the modern English alphabet. The modern English alphabet comprises of 23 letters from the Old English alphabet and 3 modern letters, j, u, w, which were added to the 23 letters later. Each letter of the alphabet has a capital letter and a small letter. The alphabet consist of 21 consonants and 5 vowels.
Spanish
The Spanish alphabet is based on the Latin, Arabic and Greek alphabets. The modern Spanish alphabet is recognized as 27 letters. Up until 2010, the alphabet had 29 letters but the "ch" and "ll" were removed, leaving 27 letters. The letter ñ is the only letter that separates the Spanish alphabet from the English alphabet. The earliest form of the French alphabet appeared in 842 AD. The French alphabet too was derived from the Latin alphabet, which is also known as the Roman alphabet. The alphabet originally consisted of 25 letters with the letter W being the last to be added during the mid-19th century, and with the letter K, which was part of the original 25, being the last to be added to the 25 during the Old French to Modern French period. The French language has 5 diacritics, which are the acute accent, grave accent, circumflex, cedilla and the diaeresis and 2 orthographic ligatures, which are (æ) and (œ). The French alphabet has 20 consonants and 6 vowels.German
The Germanic people used a type of runic alphabet knows as the Elder Futhark before adopting the Roman alphabet. The modern German alphabet consists of 26 standard letters, an additional character, ß and 3 umlauted forms of three vowels, ä, ö, ü. In total, the German alphabet has 30 letters, with 22 consonants and 8 vowels.
